Colleague Technical Consultant

The Colleague Technical Consultant will provide training and consulting services to BHA Technologies clients on various projects.  Responsibilities include gathering and reviewing client business practices, configuring software, training end users on the software and documenting training/consulting engagements, managing hourly contracts, and internal IT support. The Consultant must be a proactive, self-starting professional. This position requires a solid understanding of Student Information Systems, along with a general understanding of higher education regulations, requirements, and policies associated with key student-based offices.

Position Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple clients and projects simultaneously.
  • Candidate must be able to fill multiple positions for a diverse base of client schools, with direct knowledge of the Ellucian Colleague student system.
  • Analyze, define, and document requirements for data, workflow, logical processes, hardware, and operating system environment, interface with other systems, internal and external checks and controls, and outputs.
  • Write and maintain technical specifications.
  • Consult directly with users to help solve business challenges.
  • Develop and maintain plans outlining steps and timetables for developing programs.
  • Research and evaluate software and hardware to assist in programming or to use as program platforms.
  • Create test transactions and runs tests to find errors and confirm programs meet specifications.
  • Provide user training on the Colleague ERP functions.
  • Lead data mapping activities from the legacy systems to a new system with support from Client functional / Technical leads SMEs.
  • Assist the Client with building data migration processes from legacy systems.
  • Lead data validation activities.
  • Manage teams in the identification of technical requirements, design, testing, training, and defining support procedures.
  • Communicate conversion Solutions across the project, product, business, and quality assurance teams
  • Candidate will develop scopes of work for small, short-term client engagements.
  • Escalating all high-priority or sensitive customer requests/concerns to the appropriate IT leader
  • Provide systems analysis, problem-solving support, and necessary programming support to provide efficient and effective use of administrative information systems in support of the Client’s goals and objectives.

Required Skills/Knowledge/Experience

  • Candidate for this role is somebody with 5+ years of general or concentrated experience in the Ellucian Colleague ecosystem and associated tools and modules.
  • 5+ years of relevant consulting and higher education experience
  • An effective communicator including written, oral, and listening with the ability to educate at all levels of the organization to ensure alignment on strategy and priorities.
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and self-starter.
  • Strong knowledge of Higher Education business processes
  • Experience managing and coordinating multiple projects and initiatives for multiple clients.
  • Strong data analytical and research techniques.
  • Strong process improvement and organizational skills.
  • Experience in successful implementations, re-implementations, and upgrades of technology.
  • Practical experience in managing technology, managing student systems, and server administration.
  • Innovative thinker, able to envision how technology can be implemented to solve challenges.

Desired not Required Skills/Knowledge/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent field.
  • Experience with data management activities on a cloud platform is a plus.
  • A general interest in relevant emerging technologies such as cloud-native services, and a constant thirst to further your own technical abilities.
  • 2+ years of SaaS/Cloud based ERP experience.
  • Hands-on experience with the full suite of software lifecycle tools (Confluence, ALM, Jira, Stash, Jenkins, Artifactory, etc.)
  • Technical development experience with database programming languages and concepts (e.g. ETL, P/L-SQL, T-SQL, Stored Procedures, Views, etc.)
  • Technical development experience with object-oriented programming languages and concepts (e.g. C#, Java, C++, etc.)
  • Technical development experience with Web Services, SOAP, and REST APIs (e.g. XML, XSD, XSLT, JSON, etc.)
