Senior Director of Business Development

Business Development Responsibilities

  • Identify new prospects and make contact
  • Create new client leads
  • Maintain positive communication with prospects throughout the sales process
  • Identify needs within the higher education community and match needs to BHA services
  • Suggest new services and be able to assist in drafting a scope of work
  • Grow enterprise level sales and C-level relationships with university state systems, board of regents, consortiums, regional and global channel/alliance partners
  • Responsible for increasing revenue through strategic partnerships, identify and develop new business opportunities as well as expand brand presence
  • Responsible for strategizing, researching, and developing effective, financially sound customers to augment and expand company offerings
  • Drive and grow quantifiable success in customer relationships
  • Work with senior management to identify and evaluate new markets for services, consulting, and product offerings through selected partner organizations
  • Actively seek out new sales opportunities through a variety of options
  • Sell services by establishing contact and developing relationships with prospects, recommending solutions
  • Maintain relationships with clients by providing support, information, and guidance; researching and recommending new opportunities; recommending profit and service improvements
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies
  • Prepare and deliver appropriate presentations on products and services
  • Participate on behalf of the company in exhibitions or conferences
  • Negotiate/close deals and handle complaints or objections
  • Collaborate with team members to achieve better results
  • Gather feedback from customers or prospects and share with internal teams

Other Information

  • Travel as needed <30%
  • Create reports and proposals as requested
  • Use the CRM to provide updated information to management
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Education:
    • Baccalaureate degree
  • Experience:
    • Previous successful sales experience
    • Experience working in higher education
  • Other:
    • Ability to get along well with others
    • Good listening skills and the ability to match prospect needs to sales
    • Organizational skills and follow up
